The only downside is you can’t search the site for specific images. You only have access to the images on the homepage and whatever images are sent to you. Picography is a free stock photo site that’s small but offers up some great images.

The site is also incredibly easy to navigate and lets you sort by category, tags, color, and orientation, so you can find what you’re looking for. You’re looking for the right images for your online store, website, or social media feed. If you’re primarily focused on graphic design, you might consider starting from Canva. The site doesn’t let you download photos directly without using them in a design first, but it does let you browse and choose stock photos from within a design project. You could also check out VistaCreate, another web-based graphic design tool that offers over a million stock photos, even on the free plan. We can’t do a post on free stock images without mentioning Pexels.

Since this is a microstock site (just like iStock by Getty and Fotolia) the individual image price is quite low. There are also options for extended licenses, which hit the sweet spot with prices of $300 and $500 depending on the purpose of use. In addition to the financial aspect, you also get to be a part of a community of very talented people.

The Small Stock Photo Sites

The ability to generate fresh new photos that match your exact needs might mean stock photos will soon become a thing of the past. Stock photo sites are online photo libraries filled with professional, royalty-free images that anyone can use. These sites often partner with talented photographers and videographers around the world to curate eye-catching content.

It’s one of the oldest stock photo archives out there and derives its name from what people in production would call an inactive file—used only for reference.
